Is my dog suitable?

Muscle therapies are beneficial for the wellbeing of dogs of all breeds, ages and sizes. While all dogs can benefit from muscle therapies, we especially recommend services for:

  • Active dogs
Promotes musculoskeletal maintenance to assist injury prevention.
  • Working/sporting /racing dogs
Decreases recovery time and muscle fatigue by reducing inflammation and increasing blood flow.
Can improve balance and range of motion.
  • Show dogs
Eliminates toxins and improves nutrient supply to promote health from the inside-out.
  • Senior dogs
Improves mobility and reduces muscle soreness, stiffness and inflammation.
  • Dogs recovering from injury or surgery
Assists rehabilitation and promotes muscle healing while reducing scar tissue formation
  • Anxious/nervous dogs
Induces relaxation and reduces tension. Stimulates the release of serotonin and endorphin which can reduce pain, stress and anxiety.

Why muscle therapies?

The importance of muscles

Muscular problems are a common malfunction that is underestimated. A simple injured muscle can cause other adverse effects on the other systems of the body.

The muscles of a dog make up 44-57% of their total body weight . The muscular system is one of the ten major systems of the body. Not only does the muscular system work together with the skeletal systems to provide the power and a means to create movement, but muscles also interact with many other systems. Muscles also work in accordance to the dog’s emotional state, allowing facial expression as well as tail wagging and barking.

It is obvious to see why improving and maintaining a dog’s muscle function is extremely important and why muscles have a very important role in the overall health of a dog. This is why Release The Hounds provides muscles therapies to help enhance your dogs health and wellbeing.

CMT

Canine Myofunctional Therapy (CMT) is a form of massage specifically intended for dogs that involves the safe and gentle manipulation of the dog’s muscles. Just like in humans, this promotes a healing influence in the animal to help enhance the health of their muscles. The treatment of massage is safe and beneficial for dogs of all ages when professionally applied. Some of these therapeutic benefits are:

· Induces relaxation

· Reduces muscle tension and fatigue

· Strengthens muscles and tendons

· Promotes structural balance

· Increases the elasticity of connective tissue

· Boosts nutrient uptake

· Enhances range of motion

· Assists in detoxification

· Increases blood circulation

· Improves lymphatic flow

· Achieves efficient muscle performance

What is involved in a CMT session?

To determine the best treatment for your dog each session involves:

  • An analysis of your dog’s lifestyle and medical history
  • Biomechanical assessment of your dog’s musculoskeletal balance
  • Observation of your dog’s posture and movement to assess muscle dysfunction and range of motion
  • Whole body Canine Myofunctional Therapy massage treatment
  • Discussion and recommendations to enhance your dog’s wellbeing

Accell Therapy

Release The Hounds offers the use of Accell Therapy devices in our massage sessions. Accell Therapy uses Cycloidal Vibration Therapy (CVT), a three-dimensional vibration therapy, to improve blood flow throughout your dogs system and is one of the safest forms of physical therapy available.

Improving blood flow provides so many great benefits for your dog to help them with their health and performance. Accell is clinically proven to work in four main areas:

1. Increasing circulation and lymphatic drainage.
2. Relaxing muscle and increasing nerve muscle.
3. Increasing joint mobility, wound healing.
4. Relieve musculo-skeletal pain.

All these benefits are provided through an incredible 4ft of bone and 2ft of tissue to cellular level. Further, the benefits will continue to increase for up to 8 hours after the therapy session has finished, providing a basis to build on therapy benefits every day.

Accell devices have been developed in Australia and the UK from the Niagara Therapy CVT medical devices that have been used on humans for both injuries and mobility since 1949. The equipment is used in hospitals, clinics and sports clubs. It’s also built into furniture for home use.

Through ongoing research conducted in hospitals, universities and research institutions, this form of treatment has been proven to be totally non-aggressive and drug free.

Accell Therapy provides a simple and effective, reliable and repeatable therapy that can enhance the healing recovery in all animals in many areas including:
- Post operative, through increased healing and reduced recovery times.
- Trauma/ accident patients, to reduce inflammation, bruising and contusions.
- As a behavioral tool, to reduce separation anxiety and in behavioral training.

ANMR technique:
Allows the body to balance itself by re-establishing neurological communication within the vertebral segments
Corrects the alignment of joints and vertebrae to relieve pain
Releases tight muscles
Reduces muscle spasms

ANMR

Tasha is certified in ANMR (Animal Neuro-Myofascial Release) technique. ANMR is a soft tissue technique for both large and small animals that can correct structural misalignment and dysfunction. Using a specialized tool, known as an Activator or Chiropractic Adjusting Tool (CAT), the practitioner is able to create neurological input and soft tissue releases to encourage the animal’s body to ‘reset’ itself and allow improvements in posture, range of motion and gait.

How does ANMR work?

Basic physiology shows us that bone does not move muscle; muscle moves bone! When bones are no longer in alignment, it is important to look at how the musculature around the area is out of balance. A muscle spasm can pull the bones out of alignment. Relieve the spasm and you can re-align the body. So, instead of the traditional manual form of spinal manipulations, Animal Neuro-Myofascial Release (ANMR) technique can align the body by releasing the muscles associated with the area of dysfunction.

Is ANMR a chiropractic technique?

No. Even though ANMR uses the same tool that Chiropractors use when performing the Activator technique, ANMR is not considered to be a chiropractic technique. Rather than using the tool to move bone, the tool is used to release soft tissues and provide neurological input. This technique is approved through the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and is considered to be a soft tissue technique.
